While I'm not at the point where I can divulge any of the official Table of Contents yet, I thought I would put up a quick post letting people know that I'm still alive. You may have noticed that my post count is a little low lately. I have a pile of code samples that I want to write (including finishing up CLINQ since I've got some fun plans for that!) stuffed into a notebook. There's also a lot of reading that I want to do, including Petzold's book on 3D WPF stuff which is on the top of the list of books that need to be read :)
Anyway, just letting you know that I'm still cranking on the book. As with every book, there are a lot of surprises as you go through the process. With the SharePoint book, I know that Rob and I encountered a lot of really negative surprises - stuff that was supposed to work didn't, and things that should have been documented were completely undocumented, leaving us to reverse engineer things or pray that someone else had run into similar issues. With this book, the surprises are actually very different. I am continually surprised by the positive experiences I'm having while writing this book. At first I was a little worried that developing in two different environments simultaneously would drive me insane, but I'm actually finding it to be pretty productive, and I'm learning a lot that I hope to be able to pass on to the readers of the book.
The most frustrating thing is that as I keep finding all of these really cool things while writing the book, I can't post about them here (yet). But, rest assured - the book will be full of code and prose that is not only cool, but practical and applicable to real-world scenarios. I've already taken some of the code I wrote for the book and migrated it into things I'm doing for my day job.
I will keep you posted and hopefully I'll get to a point where I can start trickling out details on the Table of Contents and potential significant upcoming dates.
